Photo Print Size Calculator

Find out exactly how large you can print your photo at 150, 200, or 300 DPI. Check compatibility with 4×6, A4, A3, and more paper sizes — instantly, free, no upload.

How large can I print my photo?

The maximum print size depends on two factors: the number of pixels in your image and the DPI you want to print at. The formula is:

Max Print Width = Pixel Width ÷ DPI
Max Print Height = Pixel Height ÷ DPI

Example: A 4000×3000 pixel photo:

  • At 300 DPI → prints at 13.3″ × 10″ (professional quality)
  • At 200 DPI → prints at 20″ × 15″ (good for framed prints)
  • At 150 DPI → prints at 26.7″ × 20″ (acceptable for large prints)
  • At 72 DPI → prints at 55.6″ × 41.7″ (blurry, screen quality only)

Upload your image to the DPI Checker to see all these values instantly, plus a compatibility check for 7 standard paper sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Divide your image's pixel dimensions by the DPI you want. For a 3000×2000 pixel image at 300 DPI: maximum print size is 10×6.67 inches (3000÷300 × 2000÷300). This tool does the calculation automatically.
Large format prints viewed from a distance can use lower DPI — 100–150 DPI for posters viewed from 1+ metre away. Fine art prints and photo books need 240–300 DPI.
Yes. A 12MP photo (4032×3024 pixels) at 150 DPI prints at approximately 10.7×8 inches — close to A4. For A3 (16.5×11.7 inches) at 300 DPI you need a ~24MP image. At 150 DPI, 12MP is sufficient for A3 at normal viewing distance.
Print size is the physical output dimensions (inches/cm) when printed at a given DPI. Canvas size is the pixel grid. They are linked by DPI: Print size = Pixels ÷ DPI.
Yes. A 4:3 photo (standard camera) does not perfectly fill a 4×6 inch print (3:2 ratio). The calculator shows the maximum dimensions while maintaining aspect ratio, and flags when cropping will be needed.
At 300 DPI, a 20MP photo (typically 5184×3888) prints at 17.3×13 inches — larger than A3. At 150 DPI it can print at 34.5×26 inches. The print size calculator shows these options instantly.

Photo Print Size Calculator – Know the Maximum Size You Can Print

The maximum size you can print an image at good quality depends entirely on its pixel dimensions and the DPI (dots per inch) of the output device. At 300 DPI — the professional print standard — a 3000×2000px photo prints at exactly 10×6.67 inches. At 150 DPI (acceptable for large posters viewed from a distance), the same image prints at 20×13.3 inches. Understanding this relationship prevents you from ordering a large print only to receive a blurry result.

This calculator takes your image's pixel dimensions and computes the maximum print size at 72, 96, 150, 200, and 300 DPI simultaneously, in both inches and centimetres. It also shows common print format matches (4×6, 5×7, 8×10, A4, A3) so you can immediately identify which standard print size your photo is suited for. Your image file is read locally — no upload required.

  • 300 DPI — Photo lab, magazine, book printing standard
  • 150–200 DPI — Wall art, poster printing viewed from 30cm+
  • 72–96 DPI — Screen display only; will appear blurry when printed at large sizes
