Everything Included — Completely Free

No hidden plans or premium tiers. Every feature is available to everyone, always.

🧠

AI That Finds Every Face

The neural network is trained on millions of face images and reliably detects faces regardless of skin tone, age, or lighting conditions.

🎚️

Adjustable Blur Strength

Slide from light softening (strength 2) to maximum pixelation (strength 30). Preview updates instantly. Choose the right level for your use case.

🖼️

Full Original Resolution

Unlike many online tools, we apply blur at the original pixel resolution — not at the preview size — so quality is fully preserved everywhere except the face.

📤

Multiple Output Formats

Save your blurred photo as JPG (smaller file size), PNG (lossless), or WEBP (best for the web). Download instantly — no waiting.

🛡️

Zero Data Collection

We collect no image data, no biometric data, and no personally identifiable information. What happens in your browser stays in your browser.

📱

Works on Any Device

Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge — desktop and mobile. Use it on your iPhone, Android, MacBook, or Windows PC. No app download required.

Common Questions About Face Blur

Is there a file size limit on the free face blur tool?+
There is no enforced file size limit. The only constraint is your device's available RAM. Modern browsers handle images up to 20–50MB without issue. For very large images (e.g. 100MP RAW exports), we recommend resizing first with our Image Resizer.
Can I blur faces on a photo that contains text or other objects?+
Yes — the AI only blurs regions it identifies as faces. Background scenery, text, logos, and objects are untouched. Only the face bounding boxes receive the Gaussian blur effect.
Does the tool store or share my photos?+
No. Your photos never leave your device. All face detection (AI model inference) and image processing happens exclusively inside your browser using JavaScript and WebGL. We have no servers involved in the actual processing.
Is the face blur strong enough to be unrecognisable?+
At blur strength 15–30, faces are rendered completely unrecognisable through a multi-pass Gaussian blur. For maximum anonymisation (e.g. legal or journalistic use), set the slider to 25 or higher.
Does the face blur work on group photos?+
Yes. The AI detects multiple faces simultaneously — all will be blurred in a single pass. Group photos, crowd shots, and multi-person images are all supported.
Will the blur tool work on my iPhone or iPad?+
Yes. The tool works on Safari for iOS 15+ and Chrome for Android. The AI model runs using WebGL, which is supported on all modern mobile browsers. Performance is slightly slower on mobile but fully functional.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — completely free, no subscription, no watermark on output, and no account required. All AI face detection and blurring runs in your browser at no cost.
The tool uses Google's BlazeFace model via TensorFlow.js. BlazeFace is a fast, lightweight model designed for real-time face detection with sub-millisecond latency on mobile devices.
Yes. Upload photos directly from your phone's camera roll. The tool works on mobile browsers (Chrome, Safari) without needing to install any app.
For a typical photo (2–5MB, 1–3 faces), detection completes in 0.5–2 seconds. Larger images with many faces may take 3–5 seconds. The first run loads the TensorFlow model (~1MB) which adds a few seconds of one-time setup.
Yes. After blurring, click Download to save the result as a PNG or JPEG. The blurred image is generated at full resolution.
The blur is applied only to the detected face regions. The rest of the image is untouched and retains full quality. The blurred regions are of course intentionally degraded to obscure identity.

How the AI face blur works

1
Image loading — Your photo is decoded into pixel data and passed to the TensorFlow.js runtime.
2
BlazeFace detection — The neural network scans the image and returns bounding boxes for each detected face, including confidence scores and landmark positions.
3
Gaussian blur application — Each face bounding box region is extracted, blurred using a Gaussian kernel, and composited back onto the image canvas.
4
Download — The final canvas is exported as a full-resolution PNG or JPEG file ready for download.

Free Face Blur Tool – Anonymize Faces in Photos Instantly

Whether you're an educator sharing classroom photos, a parent posting to social media, or a developer handling user-generated content, protecting the privacy of individuals in photographs is essential. This tool automates the process of identifying and blurring human faces, saving you the time of manually painting blur masks in Photoshop or other editors.

Using lightweight in-browser machine learning (MediaPipe), the tool scans your photo, draws bounding boxes around detected faces, and automatically applies a privacy filter (blur, pixelate, or solid black box). You retain full manual control — you can click to remove a mask if a face was incorrectly detected, or drag to create a custom blur area for license plates, street signs, or sensitive documents. Processing is 100% client-side, ensuring your photos are never uploaded to our servers.
